Updates: cremation and memorial ceremony
Sovita’s remains will be cremated today, Monday May 1, beginning at about 1:30 PM EDT, at the Saint-Charles cemetery in Quebec City. Following her wishes, and ours, there will be no service or ceremony at the cremation itself, but all who want to can mark the moment as they wish. We for example will be raising a glass to her at the time.
The memorial ceremony will be held on Sunday May 28th, in the afternoon, at the historic Morrin Centre, in Quebec City, where she was an active member for many years, including a stint as president of the Literary and Historical Society of Quebec. We still have to work out the exact details and schedule, but there will no doubt be a portion open to everyone who wants to pay their respects, including a period where a few people will say words of remembrance; and another part reserved for family and close friends. For those who cannot attend in person, there will be a video feed so that they can watch the more formal parts of the ceremony. So that we can gauge attendance, please fill out this this registration form, ideally by Monday May 15. We’ll contact those who register with details of the ceremony, once we’ve settled on that.
Thanks to everyone for their support, their patience and their love as we work through this difficult period.
